Pixel Implementation FAQs

Why is it strongly suggested to pass a user parameter (e-mail or phone number) through the Snap Pixel?

One of the keyways that we are able to show that a website action was a result of your Snap campaign, is to match a customer e-mail or phone number back to a Snapchatter e-mail or phone number. The user parameter passback will elevate the potential to show return on your media spend by increasing the number of conversions tracked and creating more robust Website Custom Audiences.

Does Snap support image only tags?

No, Snap only offers a JavaScript tag.

How are identifiers passed to Snap?

Snap hashes identifiers and metadata using SHA256 with a dedicated function in the Snap SDK library. The hashed values are used to attribute website actions to Snapchatters.

Can I use the same Snap Pixel across ad accounts?

Yes, a Pixel ID can be shared to multiple ad accounts. Log into Ads Manager and select the Pixels tab in the top left corner. Select the pixel you’d like to share with an ad account. Type the ad account name you’d like to share and select Connect Ad Account.

Does Snap support the use of tag management systems like Google Tag Manager (GTM), Ensighten, Tealium, or Signal?

Currently, we only offer server-to-server integration with Google Tag Manager. Learn more about implementation instructions.

While we do not have integrations with other tag management systems, the pixel should work if embedded in another tag manager. Learn how to deploy Snap Pixel in Ensighten.

I use a tag manager not listed, what should I do?

Let us know and we’ll do our best to integrate. We are always working on partnerships with third parties. While we build the integration, we recommend following our general Pixel installation instructions.

Does the Snap Pixel support all products?

Conversion reporting will be supported for our self-service Ad Formats: Snap Ads (as well as Snap Ads within a Story Ad format).

Who can view and implement the Snap Pixel code within Ads Manager?

Organization Admins, Business Admins, and Account Admins can view the Snap Pixel code within Ads Manager.

Please Note: The web admin who will implement the code does not need to be affiliated or have access to Ads Manager.

Does Snap Pixel place cookies on the user’s device?

Yes, we use both first and third-party cookies when applicable. Additionally, we may leverage local storage as well. For more information, please see our cookie policy.

How does matching work?

Snap uses a variety of signals to match online conversions to impressions served in our app. Primary methods include cookies and PII matching.

What data will be sent to Snap?

There are different types of data that can be transmitted to Snap:

  1. Browser level info: when an external server gets access to a browser, they may capture various pieces of information such as IP address, web page domain, user agent, document, referral, first and third-party cookies, etc.

  2. Metadata: our pixel will collect metadata such as HTML tags

  3. Required Pixel fields: For the Pixel to work, we need to receive a Pixel ID and a standard event type.

Learn more about optional Pixel fields here.

Do I need an encryption or decryption key to setup Pixel?

No, we do not need keys as we only accept SHA256 hashed user data

What does Snap do with the data?

Snap uses Pixel data for optimization, custom audience creation, look-alike modeling, reporting, machine learning, and targeting capabilities. All uses are industry-wide practices and meant to deliver better results for our ad products. European user data is compliant with our Data Processing Agreement (DPA).

Will the Pixel slow my site down?

Our JavaScript loads asynchronously, which means it will not significantly increase load times of your website or the pages the JavaScript code is on.
